The Dreamliner is a thing of beauty, and I was looking forward to seeing it takeoff, I was impressed at how much the wings flex upwards on takeoff, then when It returned to do a flypast, it had one WW2 Spitfires each side of it, fantastic!

Boeing rolls out first 787 Dreamliner to go into service

Three years after it was first due for delivery, Boeing has rolled out the first 787 Dreamliner that is to be delivered to a customer. Japan’s All Nippon Airways (ANA) were to take delivery in May 2008, but will now receive the aircraft next month.

The plane promises increased fuel efficiency as it is the first model to be built out of plastic and carbon composites, more lightweight than conventional materials. Boeing says they have 800 orders at $200 million per aircraft. Launch customer ANA have ordered 55.

Delayed by Boeing’s outsourcing system to a variety of subcontractors, two models have been developed. The 787-8 holds between 210 and 250 passengers; the 787-9 holds 250 to 290. Airlines choose the seating layout they want.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner of ANA (All Nippon Airways) lands at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi for the first time and received a grand water cannon salute. The aircraft flown all the way from Tokyo to Delhi and will depart for Mumbai on 15 July 2011. I had the pleasure to shoot this high-tech bird making it’s first international air show debut at Farnborough air show 2010.

On Decemeber 15th, 2009, Boeing’s first 787 took off from Paine Field (KPAE) in Everett, WA for its first test flight. After a 3.5 hour flight, it landed at Boeing Field (KBFI) approximately 40 miles south of Paine Field using the GLASR7 STAR.

Boeing 787 will roll out with two next generation Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines.The Trent 1000 is on track for certification and has started its last required test. It has successfully completed the fan blade containment and all bird ingestion tests. Development testing has validated the full range of thrust capability required by the 787 family. Other testing has involved high temperature running and cyclic endurance equivalent to thousands of normal in-service hours. Key certification requirements met are the 150-hour engine type test and the FAA 1,000 cycle initial maintenance interval test.

When the first Boeing 787 Dreamliner will be unveiled on Sunday, July 8 at its official Premiere in Seattle, it will roll out with two next generation Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines – the leading powerplant for all versions of the 787. The Trent 1000′s design has been focused on delivering world-best levels of fuel burn, noise and emissions. With its next generation technology and Trent pedigree, the Trent 1000 will deliver the lowest fuel burn economics over the life of the engine. Rig and engine testing have produced excellent results, and continuing introduction of new technology will ensure that the Trent 1000 delivers the lowest emissions for the 787, with significant margin to current and future legislation. With the largest fan on the 787, the Trent 1000 will also be the quietest. The Trent 1000 will also power the aircraft on its maiden flight later this year and will be the first to enter service with launch customer ANA (All Nippon Airways) in 2008.
