Also, note the interesting video aliasing effects on the props as they harmonise with the frame rate of the camera. It’s especially cool when the props move faster, and you can see how the camera scans from top to bottom for each frame as the props appear more and more “bent”. It’s a bit like the effect of how wagon wheels appear to be turning backwards, etc, in old movies.

A takeoff like this seems spectacular, but is also very dangerous.
At each takeoff a safety speed is calculated: V1.
Before reaching V1 you can safely stop the aircraft on the runway.
After V1 you will have to continue the takeoff no matter what. This is because it is safer to get the damaged aircraft in the air than to try and stop it on a short runway.
Just imagine what will happen to this jet when an engine fails…
Despite all that the IL-86 is one of the safest airliners around, with only one fatal accident.

An Ilyushin IL-18 Coot ( Alada D2-FFR) Operated by DHL aborts takeoff from the 8202 ft long airstrip at Cabinda, West Africa. The pilot has done an excellent job; – there’s a busy public road beyond the boundary fence,less than 50 metres from the end of the runway.
