Difficult Landing Approach at St Barthelemy (Cockpit view)

This is famous as one of the more difficult landing approaches for pilots. Prevailing winds mean you have to approach over a ridge and drop down fast onto the very short runway and stop quick or risk going off the end into the sea. Pilots need a special license to be allowed to land here. Our landing was pretty straightforward, in tougher wind it can be pretty hairy.

Landing on a rather Snowy morning at Berlin with impaired visibility and low cloud. The ATIS was : 090/8 — 2500m — B/002 — S/004 — M3/M4 — 1029. The Arrival was the Lanum arrival to runway 07, which you can see in the start of the Video as I briefly go over the Arrival Plates. Boeing reccomends a relatively Firm landing in these conditions to reduce the risk of aquaplaning.

Cockpit view of a Finnair MD-11. Takeoff from Helsinki and in-flight. During the approach to rwy 31R, all went fine, but on short final, American Airlines flight 160 had not yet left the runway. Circling approach at high altitude airport Quito (9200 feet) in Ecuador as seen from MD11 cockpit. Due to the wind runway 35 was out of limits due to too much tailwind for landing therefore landing from the other side. All visual between the mountains!

This was the first 747 passenger flight from Bournemouth Airport, UK, destination New York. Bournemouth has a short runway so this was an incredibly dramatic take off for the 747.
